Catch Up: Vaucluse Bush Walk

I love the term "bushwalk" and what's funny is it's the Aussie way of saying "hike". Sounds so much more fun though!

Jack was just at the end of his school break (two weeks off!) when we had another visitor- Nana! This was not just one trip, but Nana's third trip to see us. She either loves Sydney or loves her grandbabies- which one!? ha ha!

She arrived on Saturday (after our Maritime Museum trip) and we spent much of the day relaxing with her. And unpacking. This woman knows how to make some little boys of mine happy- she brings as much as possible in her bag and packs another HUGE box to go along with it. Full of toys, candy, all of our favorite foods we've been missing. And all the items I've ordered and sent to her- clothes, shoes, etc.,- so its' really heaven for all of us.

Sunday we got up and we decided to take her down to the Vaucluse area- near Watson's Bay. She had never been there before. We decided it would be great to finally go on one of those "Bushwalks" (granted we never really have before because Henry hasn't really been old enough).

We started at Nielsen's Park- www.nielsenpark.com.au and went about half way. It really starts at the Park and ends in Rose Bay (is about a 2 hour walk there and back- probably not good with the boys), so we went about 30-40 minutes one way then turned around. Here are some more sites for this walk: www.weekendnotes.com.au/nielsen-park/ and more for other bushwalks in Sydney: www.wildwalks.com

It was GORGEOUS! Amazing and spectacular views. Not that I had been on any other walks, but Vaucluse has some of the best views ( I know- I did a photography session up on one of the hills) and it's one of the most expensive places to live in Australia (because of it's amazing views). You have all of the city- including the Bridge and Opera House to see. We really had a beautiful day- it was a little chilly at first but warmed up quickly.

The boys absolutely LOVED walking around. They each found sticks to walk with - and of course, like boys do, poke at everything around them. The trail was a bit tough in some areas so we had to keep a close eye on them. You're literally walking right along the water (and sometimes high up) so it did make me a bit nervous.

We stopped, OF COURSE, to have a little snack break. The boys needed to rest and I'm sure Nana did as well. We also stopped at one of the little secluded beaches- near the Strickland House (historical buildings) so Nana could find some seashells and put her feet in the water.

After that we turned and headed back. We then stopped at Nielsen Park (on the beach) and had lunch at the cafe. They have fish & chips (always!), sushi rolls, sausage rolls, sandwiches, etc., All sorts of great easy food. They also have a more sit down formal restaurant that I've heard is great as well.

It had warmed up a bit (not too much though- remember it's only the beginning of October and still just spring) so we got on our swimsuits and let the boys splash around in the water a bit. The tide was ridiculously high and a bit rough so we only stayed about an hour or so.

It was a great day- and a fun way to spend Jan's first weekend back in Sydney with us.

A few pics from our day!

Hilltop at Vaucluse- amazing view!

And Nana with all of her boys!

A must see and do for when you go to Sydney. It was a favorite. :)
