Catch Up: Sydney Australian Museum

A perfect rainy day activity in Sydney is going to one of the MANY museums, so we decided to take Jan to the Australian Museum with the boys to see the Deep Ocean Exhibit. I pulled Jack out of school for the day and Jason went to work, so nice to spend some time exploring the museum and having a fun day off from life.

We took the train- love the trains in Sydney- and stopped near Hyde Park. Hyde Park is beautiful, even on a rainy day and another MUST SEE of Sydney. On a sunny day, you'll see it scattered with people lounging on the grass and reading books and having little picnics. It's very tranquil and serene. It is one of the oldest and most famous parks in Sydney: http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/explore/facilities/parks/major-parks/hyde-park

The Australian Museum has been opened since 1857 and is right across the street from Hyde Park- so really you could make a pretty full day of it. There are tons of great restaurant and cafes in the area so easily can find a treat or a great lunch. And like alot of the buildings in Sydney- it's fantastic- just beautiful!

The Deep Oceans Exhibit was actually pretty neat. The boys LOVE anything ocean/water related so it was neat to walk around and show them some more of the big ocean world. Henry actually has an ocean book that he loves and it was so funny to see him recognize all of the fish and sea creatures- hilarious and astounding. He has such an amazing memory.

Of course with children, there's only so much time you can spend in one area. Quickly on to the next. So luckily the Australian Museum has alot to look at. So after a quick snack in the cafe- of course- we went on to view the other areas of the museum.

The boys were fascinated with the dinosaur exhibits and the Australian wildlife rooms. They had a really fantastic butterfly/insect room. Amazing - so many different species that I'd never even heard about.

Definitely worth a trip- especially seeing the Indigenous Exhibit and Australian Wildlife rooms. Worth knowing and learning about Australia life! It was alot of fun and a great learning day for the kids- :)
