Sydney: Newport Arms

As you can tell, I'm titling all my explorations of our city as "Sydney:" that way for those of you that ever come this way, you will know of the must "to do's" for this cool city. And, obviously, since we have kids, they are all "kid-friendly". :)

I feel like in the last month we've hit more destinations around here than we have in the last 6 months. Pretty sad.

This weekend we have a 3 day weekend- it's "Labour" (don't you love the way they add the "u" in labor) Day weekend. It commemorates the 8 hour working day for workers and recognizes the workers contributions to the national economy. So, a nice long weekend for little trips and relaxation! Exactly what we have been needing.

So as I sit here writing this we are enjoying a nice leisurely Monday morning- watching a little NFL--something we treasure since we got barely any football in Shanghai! :) Then we are off to the beach in a bit for a nice relaxing day.

But, yesterday we met some friends at Newport Beach- a restaurant called Newport Arms. It is another "it' thing to do in Sydney. The drive alone up the coast is amazing- so beautiful. It's about a 30 minute drive from us (were in North Sydney).

We met our good friends, the Auld's, Lingard's and Lev's- all have boys that are in Jack's class and we've become pretty close. Plus the boys love playing with one another so it's an extra advantage when we go out.

This place was pretty cool- I can see why it's a must see. It's a huge restaurant- indoor and outdoor and is right on the bay, so you have beautiful views of the water, sail boats and gorgeous cliffside houses.

Not only did it have amazing views, but they had a children's playground area, a green lawn area (for kids to play around on), and a TV screening area. A huge TV screen (it was showing AFL- Aussie Football League- a mixture I think of basketball, soccer and football), with big bean bag chairs. Such a cool idea. :) The kids, of course, loved playing on those.

So we had a nice lunch- we were there about 3 hours under the sun, cooled by the breeze- good food, good friends and a great afternoon. A great place to go with kids to enjoy and relax while you have lunch- or I bet it's great at sunset for drinks and dinner as well. WE'll definitely go back to do one of their summer nights.

Here's their website:  www.newportarms.com.au/

View from the outdoor patio of the restaurant! It's huge and has a great play area for kids!

An outdoor theatre set off the big patio. They have movies and Aussie football games and such that they show.

As you can tell- the kiddos had a ball with the plush seats they had

Another view of the surrounding beaches.
