Catch Up: Sydney's Maritime Museum

As you know- I'm definitely playing catch up from our last 5 months (plus Christmas home in the States). So they are all titled: "Catch up".

This was from the very end of Jack's school break- we went to the Sydney Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour. Honestly it's a must SEE for everyone. Jack loved it, but I loved it as well. Now, it may be a bit difficult to go on some of the ships if you have a stroller, but you could always take turns. Website: www.anmm.gov.au/

We went with his good friend, Lachlan and his Mom, Raechel (whom I had become good friends with). It was actually a pretty HOT day (for the first of October, meaning first of Spring), but a great day all around. They also had a Pirates exhibition going on that was rather enjoyable for the boys.

I just took Jack- Henry was at school. Jack and Henry do ALOT together and sometimes it's nice for Jack to have his own time with Mommy and his playdates. He gets a little tired of Henry always tagging along, which I understand. Plus I enjoy giving Jack extra time too.

They have a big "pirate ship" that was fun to walk on and around. You can even go down below the decks and check out their living quarters. Not so wise for me to wear a skirt that day, but didn't know I'd be crawling around in tiny spaces. I honestly don't know how people stay on a boat that small for MONTHS at a time!

Then they also have a submarine and another vessel to go on. The boys absolutely loved it. Loved seeing their living quarters, the "guns" and all the trinkets that went along with the ships. Of course though, with 5 year olds, we went through a little too quickly. I would have liked to have gone back to read all of the information, etc., Jason's grandfather Carl would have LOVED it.

After we viewed the ships, we went inside and viewed parts of the museum. It's actually a HUGE museum and they had a great Titanic exhibition that was going on. Of course the boys didn't care too much about that so we went through that pretty quickly.

It was a great museum though. I would highly recommend it for anyone that visits Sydney. Not to mention it's in a fantastic area- you can easily grab a drink, coffee or lunch before and or after and there is plenty of shopping in the area as well.

Here are some of our pics from the day:
